My little hero

This is my 4 year old son Evan. He was born 7 weeks premature. We didn't find out until he was about 2 years old that he was diagnosed having Cerebral Palsy. He has been tested numerous times. He shows no sign of mental retardation or anything else. His eating is good, his speech is fine and he is slowly catching up to the age he is supposed to be at. Although he has high muscle tone in his legs and one arm, that doesn't slow him down one bit. He does the bunny hop on the ground to get where he needs to go. He is due to have his first of many surgeries on August 9th. I am scared to death because it is such a risk. He is only 24 lbs. to date and doctor's usually don't want to put a child under anesthesia until they are at least weighing 25 lbs. or more. In my son's case, he is having a growth spurt finally, but is becomming hunch back because of the tightness, so they can't put it off any longer. They are going to cut the tendons in both ankles and in the groin area. We are hoping that he will be able to use arm crutches when this is all finished, instead of being confined to a wheelchair. After he gets his full leg casts off 6 weeks from surgery, I know he will be ready to go. Nothing keeps this child down. He is a true inspiration to me as well as to others. I couldn't ask for a better son!!! Please keep him in your prayers for this up-coming battle.

  4. Monique,

How lucky you are! He is truly beautiful and looks soooo energetic, I bet he keeps you movin all the time. My prayers are with you and Evan for the upcoming surgery, but I am sure that everything will be fine, he looks like a fighter! I have a cousin with cerebral palsy, her name is Megan and she is now 10 years old and doing wonderful. She is such a joy to be around. You are truly blessed!
